Nicholas Brown

Nicholas Brown’s landscape paintings and drawings do not depict actual places, but construct imaginary ones through the arrangement of elements both real and imagined. Like empty stage sets they suggest something has just happened or is about to happen.

Nicholas Brown is Toni Heath’s most widely collected artist. As soon as he completed his MA at Slade School of Fine Art in 2004, Brown quickly found an appreciative audience for his work, with its’ timeless qualities and recurring themes, seemingly relating to the environment, but deliberately, ambiguously open, inviting the viewer to create narratives of their own, no matter how unsettling they may be.

In autumn 2004, TATE Britain commissioned a piece from Brown to accompany the JMW Turner exhibition. This work now forms part of their permanent collection.

Nicholas Brown was born in Teddington in 1980. He currently lives and works in London. In addition to TATE Britain, Brown has work in major private collections throughout Europe, the USA & the Middle East.
