Arin Sunaryo
Arin Sunaryo’s painting practice has developed through a fascination with comic books, science fiction films and Japanese manga animations. His work may be seen as a response to the interplay between painting and drawing.
The sensuality of paint is the main reason he is currently choosing to work in this medium. However, the works do not solely convey sensory and sensual pleasure, but also strive to deliver a distinctive visual impact.
The subject matter of the work addresses the primal human inner state; desire, fantasy, fear, conflict and hidden anxieties. The paintings are a surreal mirror of reality.
Arin Sunaryo was born in Bandung, Indonesia in 1978 and completed his MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design in London. Arin has won numerous international awards and has exhibited in London, New York, Berlin, Moscow, Beijing, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, Indonesia, Bali, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia. His solo show with the Toni Heath Gallery in 2006 was one of the most successful that the gallery has ever mounted. He has work in many collections, including the Bank of Indonesia. Arin currently lives and works in London.
